Pink, Orange and Purple Ombre Balayage Hair with Kevin Murphy Color Bugs
3:50 PM
Uh oh, you guys. It happened again. Except with ALL THE COLOURS! MOAR COLOURS!
Kevin Murphy Color Bugs retail for A$24.95 and come in Pink, Orange and Purple.
What do you think of my sunset hair? Too over the top? Or maybe not over the top enough? EVEN MOAR COLOURS?!
Seriously, I have no self control when it comes to these things. I've gotta move them from where I keep all my daily products, because once I see them, it just seems rude not to use them, right?
Oh, hai guys. What's that, you want to be on me? That's a little racy! |
First I decided to do pink tips. Then I decided to blend a little orange in above it, just to change it up. Then I saw the purple Color Bug. The poor little buggy sat in my bathroom drawer, pleading silently. "Why haven't you picked me too? Don't you love getting your My Little Pony on? I thought you loved me, Michaela?"
"LOOOOOOOOVED ME!!!" |
How could I leave him behind? That's just cruel. So on to my hair went the purple, above the pink and orange. And, well, this happened....
Helllllllo, sunset hair |
I was a little concerned about the different colours not blending into each other smoothly, but a quick rough-up with my fingers helped distribute the powder further down my hair. I set it with a spray or seven of hairspray and got my ombre ass to work. I've popped a few more photos below because I'm vain so you can see how it looked.
What do you think of my sunset hair? Too over the top? Or maybe not over the top enough? EVEN MOAR COLOURS?!

Looks amazing.. I love it!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, I rate it myself.
Deleteoh my god it looks amazing in your hair!! looks like you're getting ready for rave lol I dont think it would work well in my hair (black) probably wouldnt show up.
ReplyDeleteHa, funny because I'm the least likely to go to a rave. It's a hair shadow, so is more effective on dark hair than dye.
DeleteWow, this looks absolutely brilliant!

Thanks, doll. I like it too.
DeleteI really love that, reminds me of when I had such colorful hair :D Honestly I would be far too lazy to apply it on my hair just to see it fading after one shower, I guess I prefer to dye my hair to death. Do you know if that also works on dark hair? Would be great to use in the future 'cause I have to give up my pink hair as soon as I'm getting home for my part-time job u_u"
ReplyDeleteI'm terrified of messing up by dying a full head of hair, so this works so well for me. Plus I have pastel apricot tips for the next few washes.
DeleteIt's a powder that sits on top of the hair shaft, so it does show up on dark hair, just not as vivid.
You look gorgeous Michaela!!! LOVE the colour combo!
ReplyDeleteI would kill to have this balayage hair - if only my job allows!!
Plus side to being in a creative industry! The advertising girls I work with are super jelly, they can't get away with this kind of thing.
DeleteOhmygosh this looks AHMAZING! You're lucky you can dye your hair - mine refuses to be dyed! Love love love this, you make the best MLP ever!
ReplyDeletexox
You should try these though, they're hair shadows, not dyes and wash out and I find they work better on dark hair than Fudge Paintbox or whatever.
DeleteMy Little Pony 4 lyfe, yo!
that looks sooo awesome!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, I loved doing it!
DeleteI love it!!

Me too. Team Love It!
DeleteAh! This is ridiculously pretty. The only thing that could have made this better would have been a touch more orange. I hope you wore this out.
ReplyDeleteOh it got worn out all right! Everyone at work is kind of used to it by now, but I had a few tourists take photos lol.
DeleteI think it needed more orange too. It was originally quite noticeable but it blended into the pink as the day went on.
Nice work hun! It would have been such a shame if it was never seen by eyes outside of Bloggerland.
DeleteTourists are funny like that. I remember once being asked for a photo with someone at the top of the tallest climbable mountain in Europe. I couldn't help but think to myself, "my hair's hardly more photo worthy than this huge, freaking majestic mountain you're probably only going to climb once in your life!!" Still, it's allways flattering!
Oh and I didn't realise this photo was taken later on in the day. Even WITH the blending, it's still pretty rad. Although I'm looking forward to more amped-up orange photo series in the future (I'm sure this wont be the last we hear of the Colour Bugs!
Oh dude, if I manage to do something right, EVERYBODY is gonna hear about it.
DeleteHa, can't believe that happened at an actual cool landmark, most my awkward tourist photo opps happen on the street or when I'm picking the BF up from the airport.
I must be in so many family photo albums. "Remember kids? This was the time we approached that white girl, asked her to take a photo of us, then told her to get in the photo so she could hold a screaming baby and we could all point at her whiteness. Good times."
Yes, that happened. I'm too polite to say no.
OMG I freakin LOVE it!! Makes me want to go blonde just to i can get this effect!! Amazeballs!!
ReplyDeleteMaybe get a blonde wig and try that haha.
Deletehahahahahahahaha classic!
DeleteAAHHHHHMAZING!! Where did you get these from?? xo Seriously though, you look so pretty! Love it

Give it a try, it does work on dark hair, the colours just aren't as bright.
DeleteI'm sorry but it seems you still have a lot of hair left to cover. I won't be happy until you're whole head is a rainbow :-) Go on, I dare you!!
ReplyDeleteOh silly me, it appears that I have missed a spot or 2. Maybe I'll have to do a full head sometime?!
DeleteThe colors look really cute on you! I think ombre ends are a good way to try bold colors without drawing too much attention to yourself :)
ReplyDeleteI think they def drew lots of attention still, which is fine by me because I'm allllll about the attention ;)
Deletei bought it in piiink

Thanks, I'll have to check your blog out because turquoise ombre sounds amazing.
DeleteThese are gorgeous! I wish I could wear them all like this but my hair is much too dark :( I will just have to live vicariously though you!
ReplyDeleteYou can use them on dark hair, but they sadly don't look as vivid. But I bet you have nice dark brows and lashes, so it's a fair trade, mais non?
DeleteGosh, you look stunning! I love this, I've been wanting to try these for a while but I was a bit afraid of it rubbing off on my clothes!
ReplyDeleteAw thank you! You do have to be careful with your clothes, and to brush though to shake loose extra powder before setting with hairspray. And no white tops!
DeleteOH EM GEE your hair looks AMAZING!!! beyond amazing!
ReplyDeletei am a brunette and had pink tips for a little while last year - I loved it so much!!! i read about these colour bugs when they first came out - looks like i'm going to have to hunt them down now!
xx
Thanks! You def have to try the Color Bugs, they are so easy to use. Maybe purple this time? I think it would look fab on a brunette.
DeleteYou can get the exact same effect by using chalk pastels. A pack of them costs a fraction of the price of a Colour Bug and you get a HUGE colour range to choose from!
ReplyDeleteSomeone else tweeted that to me earlier, and it sounds great! I thinking mint green or maybe turquoise?
DeleteOne word... AMAZEBALLS!!! I don't think it'd show on my hair though (or look as good) :(
ReplyDeleteDef something blondes doe best, but they do look nice on brunettes still.
DeleteLooks great, I'm interested to know how if it wore off at all on your clothes through out the day. I'm dying to try this but I don't want to be walking around with what looks like coloured dandruff on my shoulders. Ta
ReplyDeleteNot too much fall out, but I did wear black to be safe. I found that brushing it through and then setting with hairspray was the best I could do to make it stay put.
DeleteGreat, thanks :)
ReplyDeleteBy the way I think I am now addicted to your blog.
Excellllllent! Pretty sure the best cure for that is to read all the posts, and leave all the comments ;)
DeleteHey Michaela, i just saw your old post using the paint box stuff. what's the diff between colour bug and paint box??
ReplyDeleteFudge Paint Box can take 8-10 washes to totally come out of your hair, while the Color Bugs don't penetrate the hair follicle and can be removed in one wash!
DeleteI think the Color Bugs are better on darker hair too, as they don't dye the hair, but just coat it.
you have the most beautiful hair ever!!! mine is the exact same colour but really fine #jealousmuch
ReplyDeleteYou can have of my hair!
ReplyDeleteI have waaaaay too much.
