Pink, Orange and Purple Ombre Balayage Hair with Kevin Murphy Color Bugs

3:50 PM

Uh oh, you guys. It happened again. Except with ALL THE COLOURS! MOAR COLOURS!

Seriously, I have no self control when it comes to these things. I've gotta move them from where I keep all my daily products, because once I see them, it just seems rude not to use them, right?

Oh, hai guys. What's that, you want to be on me? That's a little racy!

First I decided to do pink tips. Then I decided to blend a little orange in above it, just to change it up. Then I saw the purple Color Bug. The poor little buggy sat in my bathroom drawer, pleading silently. "Why haven't you picked me too? Don't you love getting your My Little Pony on? I thought you loved me, Michaela?"

"LOOOOOOOOVED ME!!!"
How could I leave him behind? That's just cruel. So on to my hair went the purple, above the pink and orange. And, well, this happened....

Helllllllo, sunset hair
I was a little concerned about the different colours not blending into each other smoothly, but a quick rough-up with my fingers helped distribute the powder further down my hair. I set it with a spray or seven of hairspray and got my ombre ass to work. I've popped a few more photos below because I'm vain so you can see how it looked.

Kevin Murphy Color Bugs retail for A$24.95 and come in Pink, Orange and Purple.
What do you think of my sunset hair? Too over the top? Or maybe not over the top enough? EVEN MOAR COLOURS?!

  1. oh my god it looks amazing in your hair!! looks like you're getting ready for rave lol I dont think it would work well in my hair (black) probably wouldnt show up.

    1. Ha, funny because I'm the least likely to go to a rave. It's a hair shadow, so is more effective on dark hair than dye.

  3. I really love that, reminds me of when I had such colorful hair :D Honestly I would be far too lazy to apply it on my hair just to see it fading after one shower, I guess I prefer to dye my hair to death. Do you know if that also works on dark hair? Would be great to use in the future 'cause I have to give up my pink hair as soon as I'm getting home for my part-time job u_u"

    1. I'm terrified of messing up by dying a full head of hair, so this works so well for me. Plus I have pastel apricot tips for the next few washes.

It's a powder that sits on top of the hair shaft, so it does show up on dark hair, just not as vivid.

    1. You should try these though, they're hair shadows, not dyes and wash out and I find they work better on dark hair than Fudge Paintbox or whatever.

  7. Ah! This is ridiculously pretty. The only thing that could have made this better would have been a touch more orange. I hope you wore this out.

    1. Oh it got worn out all right! Everyone at work is kind of used to it by now, but I had a few tourists take photos lol.

I think it needed more orange too. It was originally quite noticeable but it blended into the pink as the day went on.

    2. Nice work hun! It would have been such a shame if it was never seen by eyes outside of Bloggerland.

Tourists are funny like that. I remember once being asked for a photo with someone at the top of the tallest climbable mountain in Europe. I couldn't help but think to myself, "my hair's hardly more photo worthy than this huge, freaking majestic mountain you're probably only going to climb once in your life!!" Still, it's allways flattering!

Oh and I didn't realise this photo was taken later on in the day. Even WITH the blending, it's still pretty rad. Although I'm looking forward to more amped-up orange photo series in the future (I'm sure this wont be the last we hear of the Colour Bugs!

    3. Oh dude, if I manage to do something right, EVERYBODY is gonna hear about it.
Ha, can't believe that happened at an actual cool landmark, most my awkward tourist photo opps happen on the street or when I'm picking the BF up from the airport.
I must be in so many family photo albums. "Remember kids? This was the time we approached that white girl, asked her to take a photo of us, then told her to get in the photo so she could hold a screaming baby and we could all point at her whiteness. Good times."

Yes, that happened. I'm too polite to say no.

    1. You can use them on dark hair, but they sadly don't look as vivid. But I bet you have nice dark brows and lashes, so it's a fair trade, mais non?

    1. Aw thank you! You do have to be careful with your clothes, and to brush though to shake loose extra powder before setting with hairspray. And no white tops!

  26. You can get the exact same effect by using chalk pastels. A pack of them costs a fraction of the price of a Colour Bug and you get a HUGE colour range to choose from!

  30. Hey Michaela, i just saw your old post using the paint box stuff. what's the diff between colour bug and paint box??

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Fudge Paint Box can take 8-10 washes to totally come out of your hair, while the Color Bugs don't penetrate the hair follicle and can be removed in one wash!
I think the Color Bugs are better on darker hair too, as they don't dye the hair, but just coat it.
