Antipodes Apostle Skin-Brightening and Tone-Correcting Serum - review

10:31 AM

I've had this serum kicking around my bathroom since March. It's not because I didn't want to write about it as soon as I got my paws on it, but because it's a treatment serum. In my experience as someone who regularly rubs stuff on her face, active treatment serums like this one need to be given at least a few weeks trial before you see results and I'm hesitant to judge something without giving it a real go.

Antipodes claims right on the box, that Apostle Skin-Brightening and Tone-Correcting Serum will brighten complexion in five days. "Mmm-hmm" I thought to myself, "Whatevs, I'll believe the results when I damn well see them myself."

So I was surprised, nay, shocked, when I saw results the morning after my very first evening of use. What kind of crazy New Zealand witchcraft is this, Antipodes?! While there wasn't much different in my tone (seriously, you try make white whiter), I noticed that my skin felt smoother, especially across my forehead and I had a neat glow going on.

I was in my flannel PJs, but you get the level of shocked. Pass the smelling salts.
The hero ingredient is the Vinanza Performance Plus, produced from sauvignon blanc grapes and kiwifruit skin. The serum is reminiscent of grapes - it's a deep red-purple colour and looks and smells like melted port wine jelly. The Boyfriend think it smells like Masterfoods Italian Herbs shaker once on my face, but that's never a bad thing.

The dropper bottle is nifty and keeps the serum untouched by my grubby fingers, and after a month of use, I've gotten through around a third of the bottle as one big drop goes a long way. My skin has maintained that initial glow and I look a lot more refreshed when I wake up in the morning. It's not a super moisturising formula, so for my dry skin I layer a drop of rose hip oil or Botani Olive Skin Serum over the top. It's one of the first brightening serums I've tried that hasn't reacted with my skin with a burning feeling or left irritated red marks. Instead it's smoothed over dry spots and I swear it's lightened a few teeny freckles I have on my nose. Antipodes recommends use on sun-damaged skin, and I think now (about to enter winter) is the perfect time to correct any pigmentation and unevenness from summer carelessness. I'm super happy with this product and will continue to use with the intent to repurchase.

Apostle retails for A$59, check antipodesnature.com for Aussie stockists.

This product was given to me for consideration by Antipodes' PR. They have in no way influenced my review and opinions are my own. It is also my opinion that wine grape based serums like this should come with companion bottles of wine. Dooooo it, Antipodes! See my Disclaimer for more sexy details.

    1. Sydney winters are the worst, they suck all the moisture from my skin. I'm so prepared this winter though, it's brightening serums and thick night creams all the way.
