Vaseline Body Lotions - Review and Giveaway!
9:00 AM
Does anyone else's skin flip the frick out as soon as it changes from a cold autumn to a freezing winter? I'm plagued with scratchy knee, itchy shins, flaky elbows and the area between my thumb and pointer finger (my finger....web?) feels/looks like a flesh-coloured turkey wattle (which until I googled it just then, I had always called a gobble).
I've been rotating between a bunch of different body lotions, butters andmayos creams to combat this whole situation and my latest loves are from Vaseline's range of body products. Vaseline is normally a brand I just associate with white petroleum jelly which I dig as a foot treatment (apply generously to clean dry heels and toes, apply socks and marinate in your own fabulousness overnight. Voila softer feet come morning!) but hadn't thought to try their lotion range yet.
Vaseline sent me three different versions, a light SPF 15+ lotion, a dry skin conditioning lotion and a cocoa butter one, so I was able to rub the lotion on its skin and try them out for myself.
Vaseline Total Moisture Aloe Fresh SPF 15+ Daily Light Lotion: Zomg, what a long name! This lotion is exactly like the name suggests and smells very fresh and aloe-y. The sunscreen scent thankfully isn't too strong and it's quite a thin formula. This absorbs the quickest out of the three I tried, and didn't leave any greasiness behind, but also didn't quite moisturise as as much as I want from a winter lotion. I'm cupboarding this one until bare legs weather comes around again, as I think it would feel very refreshing on a warm morning and the sunscreen is perfect for protecting my pale bits (and seriously, how often do you remember to SPF up your legs when you're just headed to work? Like never). RRP: 200ml for $7.68, 375ml for $11.59, 750ml for $16.31.
Vaseline Cocoa Butter Deep Conditioning Body Lotion with Cocoa Butter & Vitamin E: Every body care brand seems to have a cocoa butter variant now, and honestly the reason I like them is the chocolate smell they share. This one is less chocolately, more nutty smelling than others I've tried, more like shea and coconut. Delicious. It feels a bit richer on skin that the others and does take longer to get eaten up by your skin. I've been using it as a pre-bed treatment so I can wake up to side-eye my alarm comfortable in the knowledge that my skin is nice and plush regardless of what ungodly hour I have to drag my arse out of bed. RRP: 200ml for $7.68, 375ml for $11.59, 750ml for $16.31.
Now, Vaseline knows that you guys are most likely as scaly and dry-patch covered as I am, so to prevent any further visages being offended by our collective monstrous appearance, they've given me three skincare packs to give away to you kind folks.

Vaseline Dry Skin Conditioning Lotion with Vitamins A, E & B5: This one is housed in packaging that aligns with ye old original Vaseline jelly, all navy and pale yellow. It also shares a Vaseline-esque scent, you know the one, kind of medicinal in a light and airy way, but doesn't interfere with your fragrance once absorbed. A wee bit of this goes a long way, and I, not realising this, splorked out the usual handful onto my legs when a quarter-handful would have had handled it a-ok. This formula is a lot closer to the moisturing level I'm after - after a ten hour day, my jean-enclosed legs have no dry patches and feel smooth to touch. My favourite of the three. RRP: 200ml for A$4.99, 375ml for A$7.29, 750ml for A$10.99.

Fave way to smack down winter dryness?
ReplyDeleteLOTS OF MOISTURISER. LOL.
And hydrating face masks!
Nice. I've been basically soaking mayself in moisturiser since late May.
DeleteMoisturise after showers to lock in moisture! And always have moisturiser for body and hands in my car LOL
ReplyDeleteI always moisturise post-shhower, otherwise I just feel weird all day.
DeleteThe old school original vaso!
ReplyDeleteLips, nose, hands and elbows is the way it goes..
Haha.. I'm a dork. But seriously!
Sam x
I'm just imagining you with a big glob o' Vaseline on your nose now ;)
DeleteMy favourite way to banish the winter blues and relieve my dry unkissable lips is a three point method. The first step inolves exfoliating with Lush Lip Exfoliator (my personal favourite is the wonderful smelling bubbegum). Second step involves licking the exfoliator off - it seriously tastes so good. No not really, the second step involves slathering on a thick coating of vaseline and leaving to marinade whilst watching an episode or two of Khloe and Lamar. And last but not least apply a coating of Lanolips and rest your sleepy head whilst the wonderful Lanolin fairies work wonders on your lips.
ReplyDeleteAh I love Bubblegum lip scrub, it smells so fricking good. That's so many steps, your lips must be pretty lush even in winter!
DeleteAlso Khloe is the best Kardashian hands down.
My favourite use for vasoline is the feet trick you've mentioned above but it also is a brilliant lifesaver if you are dying your hair. Put a thin layer of vaseline around your hairline and ears and volia no nasty dye stains.
ReplyDeleteI've heard about the Vaseline on the hairline trick - my sister once dyed her hair red and had beetroot coloured stains all around her ears. Funny for me, not so much for her.
DeleteJust slap and slather on the richest moisturising cream I own, especially on my elbows and wrap a bit of cling wrap over it to seal in the moisture.
ReplyDeleteThis is done after showering when the skin soaks it in best.
This is done after exfoliating my skin to rid of dead skin so the moisturiser soaks in better.
:)
just-jkt@hotmail[dot]com
Oh my gosh, I've heard of cling-wrap on your hair over a conditioning treatment, but not for body parts. You've taught me something new!
DeleteThe longer the moisturiser claims to work, the better it is for winter! I usually go for the whopping 24hrs hydration claiming products because sometimes I can forget (read: decide I want to be lazy) and not do it one night. Usually lets you get away with it.
ReplyDeleteBeen meaning to try dry body brushing. Sounds fantastic. And far cheaper than buying 1000 moisturisers every couple of months.
I like dry body brushing (when I remember) in the morning to wake my skin up, but I still like to slather the lotion on after, 24 hours be damned.
DeleteJojoba Oil and Paw Paw ointment that shit!
ReplyDeleteShit, that sounds moisturising!
DeleteI tend to stick to the old school solutions... thick layer of vaseline on dry lips before bed and wake up to super smooth lips in the morning, perfect!
ReplyDeleteI do that too, although I suspect half of it rubs off when I face-plant my pillow in the night ;)
DeleteLots and lots of water and lip balm
ReplyDeleteNice!
DeleteMy favourite thing to do is have a nice luxurious bath with some Lush goodies, whilst using a lovely hydrating face mask.. then covering my whole body in some yummy moisturiser and hopping into bed ;) hehe
ReplyDeleteGreat giveaway!!! xx
Ohmygosh I'm a bath addict at the moment, but the water gets cold too quickly! I've been going to sleep with my richer cream masks on too, and rinsing off in the morning.
DeleteI'm with sweetaholic-beauty, there's nothing better than that! And my skin is also sooo dry... unfortunately, not only in the winter, but all year long... I still haven't found one cream that does the trick for my legs! x
ReplyDeleteOh and I forgot.. my favourite has to be the round cocoa butter body butter :p
ReplyDeleteI love the cocoa butter tub too, so good on knees. Poor you with your dry legs, it's just trial and error to find the one that works, right?
DeleteYup! They either don't absorb at all, or work but only for a few hours... :\
DeleteI love the way you put it - 'smack down'. :P Erm, I don't have an original method; just exfoliate and rub in generous amounts of moisturiser. :P
ReplyDeleteHey it's unoriginal, but it's probably the best!
DeleteI don't get dryness, my face doesn't really care what season it is and remains combo the entire year without change. .__.
ReplyDeleteBut for my hands, I use Vaseline's lotion for dry skin, in the yellow tube. It's non-greasy and absorbs in seconds. :)
Ah you're so lucky, I'm disgustingly dry. Nothing like feeling good in a dress, then realising your knees have scales....
DeleteI get horrible dry itchy skin, especially on my thighs. I recently started using Avene's Cold Cream Lotion, and so far, no itchy skin!
ReplyDeleteLove finding something that works :)
DeleteThree very important uses for vaseline: 1. Put it in hair chin length or shorter and you can make your hair stand up straight. It will take about four washes to come out. 2. Put on your eyelashes and it makes them all shiny and pretty. Good to give you a break from mascara. 3. Put on the bottom of your feet and slide around on the floor.
ReplyDeleteHa! Tempted to try number 3 on my kitchen tiles. Verrrrrrry tempted.
DeleteI mix vaseline jelly with a few drops of lemon juice and apply it on my hands. It worked wonders especially when I was in Sweden when my hands got so dry that I had skin cracks on my knuckles.
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of this one! Does the lemon juice help brighten skin? I know it has whitening properties.
DeleteYes it does. It also helps remove the yellow nail polish stains. It is so good!
DeleteMy arms and legs in particular can get really dry and scaly-like if left unmoisturised for too long so I just put on moisturiser everyday after a shower. For my hands, I use Aveeno Intense Relief Hand Cream, it's non greasy and very moisturising, love it:)
ReplyDeleteI get the scalies too! Love a non-greasy hand cream :)
DeleteI always use the Vaseline white petroleum jelly on my hairline when I colour my hair. This avoids unflattering dark patches on my face:)
ReplyDeleteX
I don't think I've ever seen anyone with dark dye patches on their face either!
DeleteMy most celver use for Vaseline was a fire lighter, we were camping and it was freezing and so I smeared it on some news paper.... other than that, its a great lip balm.
ReplyDeleteThe best tip I have for beating winter dryness is one my mum gave me, I laughed, but in a desperate attempt to rid myself of lizzard skin elbows I tried it and it works.
Cut an orange in half, juice it (almost entirely) then put a teaspoon of sugar in each one and rub them on your elbows. I then slather them in heel balm (yes heel balm) because its designed for your heels which are super dry, its works wonders for the elbows.
Glad you posted that one, that's so bizarre! Glad it worked, otherwise I'd think your mum was trying to make you look silly. What heel balm did you use? I like the one that has something to do with emus...
DeleteNever knew Vaseline was flammable, I'll be more careful blowing out candles when my lips are slathered with it, which is like every night.
Soap and Glory's Heel Genius.... does exactly what it says on the tube!
DeleteBeen meaning to try them soon *adds to list*
DeleteI have the worst dry skin no matter the time of the year. My regimine consists of glop, slather, repeat. I am definitely going to try some of the suggestions listed here!
ReplyDelete<3 Shannon
I think we've heard some great suggestions in the comments to try out ourselves!
DeleteAvoid long hot baths and showers in the winter, although they warm you up a treat they also dry your skin out a lot.
ReplyDeleteCheers Sharon.
My brain tells me long hot baths are no good, but my cold bones say top it up with more hot water and stay in there forever.
DeleteI apply Vaseline to my cracked heels at night, and cover with socks. The Vaseline helps soften my heels, and reduces the risk of cracks, and subsequent pain from aforementioned cracked heels.
ReplyDeleteI do this too!
DeleteThanks, I'll check it out. Remember to enter the competition :)
ReplyDeleteI love the fact that it's a passed on generational tip from my grandma who we've sadly lost to cancer... We use Vaseline daily on our lips instead of lipgloss to maintain shine, gloss and to protect lips from chaffing we swear by it xo thanks for the opportunity
ReplyDeleteIt's a good tip, no wonder it's been passed down!
Deleteit might sound surprising but a trick i have heard for long thick lashes is to put a coat of vaseline on your eyelashes before you go to bed. over-time (key word) you should see your lashes grow!!
ReplyDeletea similar idea to Caroline's vaseline covered sock feet that i have come across is to find an old pair of socks and cut the toe ends off. slather your elbows with vaseline and cover with your 'new' elbow socks et voila - you have overnight elbow moisturisers!
Zomg the elbow socks idea is hilarious! Think I will try that one, KK.
DeleteMoisturiser, moisturiser and more moisturiser seems to do the trick!

True, thanks for entering!
DeleteBack in the 1940s Vaseline was a Hollywood starlet's best friend. To give her that famous soft focus "romantic" look the cameraman would simply smear some Vaseline on the end of the lens and voila, she came out looking young, fresh and decidedly less wrinkly -pity that tip only works in black and white movies and not in real life.
ReplyDeleteI tried smearing Vaseline over my iPhone lens once for the same effect. That was a bad idea.
DeleteLol! Yeah, probably better to find an app for that. Btw I bought the Vaseline cocoa butter deep conditioning lotion today and slathered it on my dried cracked red knuckles which sadly were almost starting to bleed (I swear this winter I feel like we are living in Siberia). Anyway not to sound like a testimonial or anything but already they look and feel a gizillion times better. Thanks Michaela and thanks Vaseline :)
DeleteNice job! Hopefully your poor knuckles will get their act together soon. Maybe try drenching them with lotion before bed then popping on cotton gloves. I swear it helps amp up the moisturisation (def a word) process.
DeleteLots of moisturiser!
ReplyDeleteBefore going to bed I lather rich moisturiser into my hands and feet and cover them with gloves/ socks, and they feel soo smooth and nourished by morning!
Moisturiser seems the way to go. Got a favourite brand?
DeleteVaseline dry skin lotion is great, but it does not work unless I remember to use it, I have discoved that while it sits in the bottle my skin cracks, when I laather it on my skin improves.
ReplyDeleteHaha, funny that. I guess the inside of the lotion bottle is pretty well moisturised!
DeleteNothing feels so good as Cocoa Butter slathered on to dry legs!
ReplyDeleteI love cocoa butter too!
DeleteThis prize is fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI like to moisturize every morning after a nice hot shower with Vaseline.. keeps my skin nice and smooth, how do i know this? Because my boyfriend keeps telling me he loves my soft skin :)

DeleteHubby and I have a Vaseline moisturiser each beside the bed - it has become a ritual each night, kiss goodnight, then moisturise face, hands and arms! Oh my we sound old (well we are but we don't look it because we have lovely soft, smooth skin!)
ReplyDeleteHa that's cute! I couldn't get my boyfriend to moisturise his arms and hands for anything!
DeleteLather some Vaseline goodness on super dry legs and they will be smooth and shiny once again!
ReplyDeleteI think that's the best way to beat dry skin :)
DeleteAh vaseline, an oldy but a goody. Is there anything it can't do!? I like to rub a touch on my eyebrows before I pluck them, it makes the hairs easier to see and doesn't hurt as much!
ReplyDeleteA non-beauty related use for vaseline that I just learnt about - rub a bit of vaseline on your handreel, it makes the fishing line glide faster! (one guess what my hubby likes to do in his spare time hehe...)
Rachel Thompson
nickyandrachy@internode.on.net
Ah I haven't heard the the eyebrow one before, that's interesting.
DeleteLol at the fishing tip, and he can use it to protect his lips from wind chafing at the same time too :)
A cap of Baby oil in a warm bath, not only does it keep dry skin away but it protects from the harsh elements too!
ReplyDeleteI love baby oil! Especially massaged into skin still damp from the shower.
DeleteNice dash on my lips to stop them cracking in winter.
ReplyDeleteAn oldie, but a goodie.
DeleteI'm in love with the Vaseline Cocoa Butter one and i combat dryness by slathering a shiz load on after a shower so that it soaks right in!
ReplyDeleteI believe a shiz load is totally the right amount to use ;)
DeleteUsually I smother myself with sorbolene cream and then pop on my pjs & socks. Wake up to skin as smooth as a babies bum!
ReplyDeleteI do this too. Socks are seriously saving my feet this winter.
DeleteVaseline Total Moisture Aloe Fresh SPF 15+ Daily Light Lotion keeps me free of dry skin over winter while still protecting me... UV rays don't shut down even though the infra-red ones have!
ReplyDeleteI like to team mine with a tin-foil hate to stop the infra-red rays sent from the government. They control my microwave.
DeleteBWC body lotion and Burt's Bees facial moisturizers.
ReplyDeleteGoogle tells me that BWC is Bendigo Web Central. I wasn't aware Bendigo is in the body lotion biz ;)
DeleteI have psoriasis, and used to have it REAL bad. In younger days I'd put a cup of rolled oats into the foot of a stocking, knot it, and drop it in my bath. Makes one hell of a mess, but the resulting soupy porridge-bath is wonderful for ultra dry skin.
ReplyDeleteI do this all the time. I add honey and sliced banana to the tub so I can have breakfast at the same time :\
DeleteI use a mixture of honey and sugar as a body scrub then slap on the moisturiser :)
ReplyDeleteI hope you don't slap it too hard. Moisturiser has feelings too.
DeleteEven though you may not feel as thirsty in Winter as you would in Summer, you should still try to stay well hydrated, your skin will thank you for it.
ReplyDeleteDoes vodka count? I think it counts.
DeleteI use intensive moisturizer weekly & slather it on my feet and sleep in socks, so soft :)
ReplyDeleteBeth x
I also sleep in socks. Two for my feet and a giant sock for my body, which I've nicknamed my 'pyjamas'.
DeleteI rub heaps of Vaseline on my feet before bed, put on some old socks and after a few nights...voila...no more dry feet!
ReplyDeleteSometimes I wonder what we'd all look like with cat whiskers. Meow.
DeleteI know its not what its generally made for but I put a layer of vaseline on our fruit trees trunks to keep the ants from eating the fruit
ReplyDeleteCurious, do the ants slide off or do their teeny little feet become enrobed in Vaseline, dooming them to a lonely death glued to your fruit trees?
DeleteI put vaseline around my vegie garden so the snail can't eat my vegie lol. It works great :)
ReplyDeleteNot for the snail.
DeleteSlathered all over my feet at night just before I sleep. I hate dry feeling feet but doing this means my feet always look and feel great!
ReplyDeleteWow great giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI like to use Vaseline on new shoes by applying to the areas like the back of your heels and on your pinky toes. It helps prevent blisters and works a treat!
Alternatively, I like to wear Vaseline as a shoe. Blister-free!
DeleteDry off after a shower with Vaseline moisturiser!
ReplyDeleteMore like 'moist up'...
DeleteFOR THOSE LONG NIGHTS OUT, SMEAR SOME VASELINE PETROLEUM JELLY ON YOUR PULSE SPOTS BEFORE APPLYING YOUR FAVOURITE PERFUME. IT HELPS THE FRAGRANCE TO LINGER ALL NIGHT LONG!!!
ReplyDeleteI'M SORRY, I CAN'T HEAR YOU. YOU'LL HAVE TO SPEAK UP!
DeleteA great quality moisturiser and lots of water
ReplyDeletearballantyne@dodo.com.au
But wouldn't all that water wash the moisturiser away? WOULDN'T IT ANONYMOUS?!
DeleteCover that shizz up with oily moisturiser, then put on pants and don't wash those pants for three months so the grease just builds up endlessly... mmmm.
ReplyDeleteI am gross.
Once grease layer has reached optimum thickness, initiate sexy times with partner. Laugh at their repulsion.
DeleteYep, I'm also gross. And a little mean.
I use Vaseline on my lips, good for dry and cracked lips.
ReplyDeletei always count on vaseline in winter.it works great and help me keep my skin much better.other products of vaseline are also very good.
