Vaseline Body Lotions - Review and Giveaway!

9:00 AM

Does anyone else's skin flip the frick out as soon as it changes from a cold autumn to a freezing winter? I'm plagued with scratchy knee, itchy shins, flaky elbows and the area between my thumb and pointer finger (my finger....web?) feels/looks like a flesh-coloured turkey wattle (which until I googled it just then, I had always called a gobble).

I've been rotating between a bunch of different body lotions, butters and mayos creams to combat this whole situation and my latest loves are from Vaseline's range of body products. Vaseline is normally a brand I just associate with white petroleum jelly which I dig as a foot treatment (apply generously to clean dry heels and toes, apply socks and marinate in your own fabulousness overnight. Voila softer feet come morning!) but hadn't thought to try their lotion range yet.

Vaseline sent me three different versions, a light SPF 15+ lotion, a dry skin conditioning lotion and a cocoa butter one, so I was able to rub the lotion on its skin and try them out for myself.

Yes it will, Precious.

Vaseline Total Moisture Aloe Fresh SPF 15+ Daily Light Lotion: Zomg, what a long name! This lotion is exactly like the name suggests and smells very fresh and aloe-y. The sunscreen scent thankfully isn't too strong and it's quite a thin formula. This absorbs the quickest out of the three I tried, and didn't leave any greasiness behind, but also didn't quite moisturise as as much as I want from a winter lotion. I'm cupboarding this one until bare legs weather comes around again, as I think it would feel very refreshing on a warm morning and the sunscreen is perfect for protecting my pale bits (and seriously, how often do you remember to SPF up your legs when you're just headed to work? Like never). RRP: 200ml for $7.68, 375ml for $11.59, 750ml for $16.31.

Vaseline Dry Skin Conditioning Lotion with Vitamins A, E & B5: This one is housed in packaging that aligns with ye old original Vaseline jelly, all navy and pale yellow. It also shares a Vaseline-esque scent, you know the one, kind of medicinal in a light and airy way, but doesn't interfere with your fragrance once absorbed. A wee bit of this goes a long way, and I, not realising this, splorked out the usual handful onto my legs when a quarter-handful would have had handled it a-ok. This formula is a lot closer to the moisturing level I'm after - after a ten hour day, my jean-enclosed legs have no dry patches and feel smooth to touch. My favourite of the three. RRP: 200ml for A$4.99, 375ml for A$7.29, 750ml for A$10.99.

Vaseline Cocoa Butter Deep Conditioning Body Lotion with Cocoa Butter & Vitamin E: Every body care brand seems to have a cocoa butter variant now, and honestly the reason I like them is the chocolate smell they share. This one is less chocolately, more nutty smelling than others I've tried, more like shea and coconut. Delicious. It feels a bit richer on skin that the others and does take longer to get eaten up by your skin. I've been using it as a pre-bed treatment so I can wake up to side-eye my alarm comfortable in the knowledge that my skin is nice and plush regardless of what ungodly hour I have to drag my arse out of bed. RRP: 200ml for $7.68, 375ml for $11.59, 750ml for $16.31.

Now, Vaseline knows that you guys are most likely as scaly and dry-patch covered as I am, so to prevent any further visages being offended by our collective monstrous appearance, they've given me three skincare packs to give away to you kind folks.

Each pack contains a Dry Skin Conditioning Lotion (375ml), Total Moisture Aloe Fresh (200ml), Cocoa Butter Smoothing Body Butter, Vaseline Jelly in 100g and a pocket pack, Healthy Hand and Nail Cream and a Lip Therapy balm. Three packs equal three winners!

Leave me a comment with your favourite use for Vaseline (keep it clean!) or sworn-by secret to banish dry winter skin!

My favourite way to banish the winter blues and relieve my dry unkissable lips is a three point method. The first step inolves exfoliating with Lush Lip Exfoliator (my personal favourite is the wonderful smelling bubbegum). Second step involves licking the exfoliator off - it seriously tastes so good. No not really, the second step involves slathering on a thick coating of vaseline and leaving to marinade whilst watching an episode or two of Khloe and Lamar. And last but not least apply a coating of Lanolips and rest your sleepy head whilst the wonderful Lanolin fairies work wonders on your lips.

Also Khloe is the best Kardashian hands down.

  5. My favourite use for vasoline is the feet trick you've mentioned above but it also is a brilliant lifesaver if you are dying your hair. Put a thin layer of vaseline around your hairline and ears and volia no nasty dye stains.

    1. I've heard about the Vaseline on the hairline trick - my sister once dyed her hair red and had beetroot coloured stains all around her ears. Funny for me, not so much for her.

  6. Just slap and slather on the richest moisturising cream I own, especially on my elbows and wrap a bit of cling wrap over it to seal in the moisture.

This is done after showering when the skin soaks it in best.

This is done after exfoliating my skin to rid of dead skin so the moisturiser soaks in better.

    :)

  7. The longer the moisturiser claims to work, the better it is for winter! I usually go for the whopping 24hrs hydration claiming products because sometimes I can forget (read: decide I want to be lazy) and not do it one night. Usually lets you get away with it.

Been meaning to try dry body brushing. Sounds fantastic. And far cheaper than buying 1000 moisturisers every couple of months.

  17. Three very important uses for vaseline: 1. Put it in hair chin length or shorter and you can make your hair stand up straight. It will take about four washes to come out. 2. Put on your eyelashes and it makes them all shiny and pretty. Good to give you a break from mascara. 3. Put on the bottom of your feet and slide around on the floor.

  21. My most celver use for Vaseline was a fire lighter, we were camping and it was freezing and so I smeared it on some news paper.... other than that, its a great lip balm.

The best tip I have for beating winter dryness is one my mum gave me, I laughed, but in a desperate attempt to rid myself of lizzard skin elbows I tried it and it works.
Cut an orange in half, juice it (almost entirely) then put a teaspoon of sugar in each one and rub them on your elbows. I then slather them in heel balm (yes heel balm) because its designed for your heels which are super dry, its works wonders for the elbows.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Glad you posted that one, that's so bizarre! Glad it worked, otherwise I'd think your mum was trying to make you look silly. What heel balm did you use? I like the one that has something to do with emus...
Never knew Vaseline was flammable, I'll be more careful blowing out candles when my lips are slathered with it, which is like every night.

  27. it might sound surprising but a trick i have heard for long thick lashes is to put a coat of vaseline on your eyelashes before you go to bed. over-time (key word) you should see your lashes grow!!

a similar idea to Caroline's vaseline covered sock feet that i have come across is to find an old pair of socks and cut the toe ends off. slather your elbows with vaseline and cover with your 'new' elbow socks et voila - you have overnight elbow moisturisers!

  29. Back in the 1940s Vaseline was a Hollywood starlet's best friend. To give her that famous soft focus "romantic" look the cameraman would simply smear some Vaseline on the end of the lens and voila, she came out looking young, fresh and decidedly less wrinkly -pity that tip only works in black and white movies and not in real life.
