Elemis Papaya Enzyme Peel - review

My masking addicted has previously been documented here, so you know I just cannot get enough of that smooth of clean skin, marinate for 15, then rinse to a sparkly new face routine. Recently, I've been trialling the Papaya Enzyme Peel from Elemis, something that combines something I like (tropical fruits yeah!), with something I'm useless with (science, how does it work?).
This is a chemical exfoliator, and like all similar products with potentially potent ingredients, it's prudent to test-patch it before slathering over your face. I'm really impatient, so I hoped for the best, smoothed a layer over dry, freshly cleansed skin and let the magic happen.
Rinsing off after about 20 minutes, I didn't notice much of a difference aside from a tightness across my nose and forehead. Shrugged and went through the rest of my nightly routine (tone, serum, eye cream, moisturise, retire to the soft arms of my Paul Rudd body pillow).
But come the next morning and hoo-boy, my skin was looking fiiiiiiiine! Think visibly smoother, silky to touch and with its own little glow going on.
Using a peel mask like this one is a most excellent alternative to physical exfoliators, as they avoid scratching or damaging your skin with jagged scrubby bits, but still eat away enough dull surface skin to reveal that fresh face beneath.
I wouldn't use anymore than once a week on my normal-dry type skin and would prob take the tube out for a spin about 2 days before you want your skin at optimum hotness.
While we're on the subject of Elemis, I also tried their Exotic Frangipani Monai Body Oil and ermahgerd you guys, it smells so ridiculously amazing!
I love when scented products smell like their real, true-to-life namesake and not a shitty synthetic imitation, and Elemis have done a bang up job here with their frangipani oil. You can use it as a bath oil under running water, smoothed into damp skin to moisturise, or just con your boyfriend into giving you a shoulder and back massage with it "for the blog". Which I guess it is now!

That body oil sounds kind of amazing. Hate synthetic scents, and am surprised they could get a real 'frangipani' scent. Props to them!

DeleteTotally agreed on the synthetic scents but not sure about the tropical fruits (I come from a tropical country but must take more after my Japanese half!) scent - loving the sound of your results! Might be keen to try...if I can overcome the fruits thing.

DeleteThat peel sounds totally up my alley, I love that kind of result! I use an Alpha-H exfoliator that is fruit based, so this could go great guns with that.
ReplyDeleteAh sounds like your Alpha-H exfoliator would be similar, so this shouldn't irritate. I just love how smooth my skin is after.
DeleteFrom what I know (*puts on geek glasses*) papaya contains papain, an enzyme which is actually used as a meat tenderiser. At a low concentration it exfoliates skin much like AHAs/BHAs.

The science, it buuuuuuuurns us! Thanks for the nifty facts, it's exactly the info I'm after, but too lazy to Google. Yep, when I see a dog with a chemical lb set up, the first thing I notice is his incorrect flash handling! For shame!
