Bangin' bangs, it's a style shake up! The return of the fringe, thanks to Stevie English.

I'm no stranger to having bangs. As a wee Michaela, I had a long thick fringe courtesy of my Mum and a head-sized mixing bowl.

Until the day I hacked it off in an attempt to make a zig-zag part, that is. Much to my Mum's chagrin, it was also school photo day.

Since then, I've grown my hair out, switching from a middle part to a side part sometime in high school and that part slowly edging closer to my left ear this year.

Feeling in a bit of a style rut, and having already given bright colours a whirl, I decided to revisit the fringe, care of my new fave hair salon, Stevie English.
I had in mind a long, blunt fringe, something sexy but playful, that could be worn straight and sleek or tousled and bed-headed.

English's Bondi salon is the second for the hairdresser, opening early
this year as an eastern companion to the Glebe flagship.
It's my first time to the salon, and I'm instantly won over by being offered a boutique beer as soon as I sit down.

I'm introduced to the stylist Elly, who genuinely listens to what I want, then takes me through her interpretation, which is amazingly exactly what I want, but couldn't really vocalise (anyone else here hopeless at explaining just what they want to a hairdresser?).
She spritzed, parted and combed the front lengths, pulling hair from a deep middle part from the crown and showed me just how much was coming off. It's a lot, you guys.

Elly then trimmed and snipped away, shaping around my forehead and somehow managing to resist the delicious Smarties I was eating. Seriously, Smarties need more credit. They are so good and have that perfect warm mouth melting point.

I LOVE the final result! It's the perfect thick, lash gazing length I was after, but doesn't revert me back to that scissor clutching seven year old Michaela.
Plus I can let my lengths do their own bad old wavy thing, and roughly straighten just the fringe to get that ruffled look I normally go for without the fluffy factor. LOVE!
What do you guys think? Do you prefer fringe or pre-chop? Are you are a befringed comrade? Any styling tips for me? Is there a secret handshake I have to learn now?

I think it looks amazing! I had a fringe as a child too, I don't know if I could go back, but my recent trips to the HD seem to be getting a little closer! Baby steps!

DeleteI like it . makes you look youthful and puts focus on your eyes. Does Luke like it . ITs great to have a change too. Plus you can just wash and blowdry the fringe and put the rest of your hair in a ponytail or a big clip and no one will know that you didnt have time to wash it all.
DeleteI have a fringe - I'm a bit lazy on the upkeep apart from a DIY trim every now and again (I used to use those comb scissor things but I've recently been converted to the diagonal snip - does this even make any sense? Friday is when my brain gives up). My dance teacher used to carry a comb around for her fringe though, made me feel positively lardy arsed.

Looks great Michaela! I love your hair it's a pretty blonde and looks healthy. I had a fringe all through primary school too when I rebelled and grew it out lol. Just on a side note boy I miss my cabbage patch doll she was my best friend from about 2-4yrs.

DeleteYour fringe is hawt! Tres chic. I had one for a bit but got sick of having to blowdry and straighten it almost every day :( but my hair is wavy so I had to.

DeleteWow! Bangs suit you very well, love it! (Not a huge fan of bangs.) I get myself a fringe every 1-2 years just to notice after a while it makes me look chubby. But I cut my whole hair a looooooot today from superlong to kinda-short so I feel your excitement, too.

Great fringe! I have a blunty too, it's super fun! I find that when drying it if I brush it left, right & then straight down it always sets in place with too much trouble.

DeleteWow, I turn around for a couple of weeks and look what you've done!! The fringe looks amazing - and petite Michaela is too adorable :) I've got a blunt just under my eyebrows fringe, and go to have a trim when little rogue hairs start to sting my eyes. And you know all the annoying little hairs that will lodge themselves on your face after a fringe trim? The sticky lint roller sheets are perfect for getting them off (feels a bit weird, but works a charm).
ReplyDeleteStyling-wise, blow-drying the fringe in 2 layers instead of the whole thing in 1 go tends to work best and makes it stay put well (except in gale winds obviously) - otherwise, the 'brush all the way left, then all the way right, then down the middle' technique works really well too.
Nothing left to say, except you look pretty as a peach fringed or un-fringed, but I think I prefer fringed - go bang sister!! xxx
