Showpony pink hair extensions | review and giveaway
5:06 PM
Ladies, let's talk hair extensions. I've recently realised that most people on television and in fashion with fabulous hair only grew like 30% of it themselves. I know, I'm a little slow.
If there was ever anyone who thought she didn't need hair extensions, I'm your gal. I have enough long blonde hair to stock Mattel's shelves and provide the Navy with ropes for a year (I'm pointedly not making a seaman joke here, and it's killing me, you guys).
I thought hair extensions were reserved for Kardashians and America's Next Top Model's latestvictims contestants, so obviously I jumped at the chance to try out Showpony's professional range to emulate Our First Lady Tyra.
I started off at the Elizabeth Street Toni & Guy with fresh-ish hair, unadulterated by serum or styling.

BOW TO YOUR QUEEN |

Yikes! |
I went through the colour choices and made a decision based on seasonal styles, practicality and short-term fashion predictions. Except not really. I saw the pink and purple shades and I needed them in and around my hair immediately.
The authentic hair extensions were applied in tiered layers close to the hair root, using a bonding agent to hold the pieces in place.
I only wanted a touch of colour showing, so my top layers fell over and left just the tips peeking out.
Obviously my hair looks super sleek and schmick straight out of the salon, but I found them surprisingly easy to style in the weeks to follow.
They even took on the same wave as the rest of my hair when I plaited it, and was so uniform in texture, most people just assumed I'd dyed my hair pink again.
When it came to caring for my hair, I used the Showpony branded shampoo and conditioner, specially formulated to untangle extensions without dissolving the bond. The shampoo left both my natural hair and the extensions feeling clean and the conditioner sealed in some much needed moisture to my dry ends. I gave my comb a miss, and instead used the plastic, bendy-bristled brush recommended to smooth out after rinsing.
The one issue I had with the long extensions was that combined with my naturally thick mane, it became a whole lotta hair to handle. This had both prods and cons - it looked gorgeous and attention-grabbing, but was pretty heavy. It was an awful lot to cram into a ponytail, but once I managed to get it tied up (several snapped hairties later) I had the fullest, swishiest ponytail ever.
I think that extensions would definitely benefit a lady with finer/less hair, as it was a fun novelty for me, but I think they would be a total game-changer for someone wanting more volume, which they certainly gave.
Now for the fun bit! I've got a Showpony product pack to give away. It contains a seven piece set of 18" clip-in extensions in the colour of your choice (not the salon version reviewed above, but equally funsies), a shampoo, a conditioner and a shine spray, with a total value of $390.90!
All you need to do is fill in the Rafflecopter form below, and cross your fingers. This giveaway is open to Australian residents only. A winner will be drawn randomly on November 7th 2013 at 12am EST.
