My Pink Balayage Hair - An At-Home Experiment!
3:12 PM
Ok, so I've dyed my hair just once before, and it was pretty much a disaster. So when I woke up last week and thought "Oh my God. I'm 24 and boring and not very crazy or wild or doing anything extreme RIGHT NOW! I NEED TO DO SOMETHING EXCITING!!", it took me quite by surprise. Figuring it was a quarter-life crisis, and that it was obviously my previously happily blonde hair holding me back, I decided to dip-dye my hair a pastel pink and recapture my fruitful youth and the carefree mind from way back when I was 23.
Ingredients for pink hair/quarter-life crisis cure
1 Fudge Paintbox in Pink Moon
1 Fudge Paintbox in A Whiter Shade of Pale
1 dish that used to house a microwave lasagna (Lean Cuisine honey soy chicken is equally appropriate)
1 hairdressers paint brush thingy
3 glasses of fancy red wine because I am an equally fancy lady
Ok, 5 glasses.
Ok, and it was from a $12 cask. Shut up.
Voila, my canvas in all its dry, fluffy glory.
Voila, 2 parts purple to 1 part PINK!
Voila, the gunk I painted haphazardly (no,YOU'RE drunk!)on the bottom hair of my hair. I then immediately freaked out and tried to rub it off, before applying more.
Voila, the discarded cling-film I tried to wrap around my head. Seriously how is this a thing that people can do? It is fricking impossible unless you are a Glad-Wrap savant.
Voila, me waiting 20-30 minutes with my hair in a shower cap.
And presto, my newly bepinked locks, like 80% dry and unstyled.
And here I am in poser-mode, hair ready for the public and with matching lips too! I'm so happy with how it's turned out, and even more happy with the attention I'm getting. ALL the attention!
I've now washed it once since, and although it has become even lighter, I still heart it. I'm thinking about giving it another dose in about two weeks.
What do you think? Would you try the dip-dye look in a pastel or bright shade? What colour should I try next?!
Look, it worked! You should totally read ahead now that I've spoiled the ending |

Omg your hair looks amazing!!!!!!! I wish I had blond hair, I would be on this pastel trend for a long time now!
ReplyDeleteThanks Déborah! Loving the pastels right now. Such a shame that brunettes have to bleach their locks if they want any colour to show up.
ReplyDeleteI thought I already commented on this but I didn't. Oh well, here I go:
ReplyDelete"I love this."
PS holy crap the captcha I got when commenting basically said milf. *heehee*
ReplyDeletedo you think if i mixed the green paintbox dye with the purple whiter shade stuff, like if i diluted it a ton do you guys reckon i could get it to a mint kind of colour? i really love that colour and i have no idea how to get it to that !
ReplyDeleteHey Anon!
ReplyDeleteI think you could do it, but only if your hair already has fairly cool tones to it already. Mint is actually on my list of shades to try! I would mix 3 parts toner to 1 part green , and make sure to do a strand test too, as they are the best indicator of the colour to come.
Fudge is a great brand to try fun colours like mint too, as they are easier to remove if it all goes horribly wrong...
@TS
ReplyDeleteLOL!! I had one that said 'cram it' once. I was mildly offended.
Is a hair colour change in your future? ;)
thanks michaela !
ReplyDeleteyeah my hair is a bleach blonde kind of colour
im trying it this weekend so i'll tell you how it goes !! :)
I love it! You pull it off really well :)
ReplyDeleteMy hair is really dark so doubt it would work unless I went lighter.
Hey Melinda! Yep it's really a trend that works best on lighter hair. But I bet you have naturally dark lashes too (unlike my albino ones) so that's kinda a fair trade.
ReplyDeleteThanks for putting this up!! This is going to be my summer project. How did you apply the colour? just slap it on? or did you have a technique?
ReplyDeleteI tried brushing it on, but it was taking too long, so ended up rubbing it in with my hands at the very ends, and applying with a lighter hand on the mid-lengths.
